Jancis Robinson & Richard Brendon - The Only Wine Glass You Need (2-Pack)

Price: $129.95

I have never used a better wine glass! It's remarkable.

Recently, I was invited to a tasting of about 25 exceptional wines (think 1982 Chateau d'Yquem out of Magnum). The purpose of the tasting was to introduce the new wine glass designed by Jancis Robinson MW and Richard Brendon. I love great glassware, but I'm always a bit skeptical if someone says they have a glass that makes wine perform better than Zalto or Reidel. But Jancis is one of the top authorities on wine in the world (and they were pouring some world class wines), so I went. It was a spectacular experience!!!

They gave us each a Jancis glass, and in front of 25 different stunning wines, they had some poured in the appropriate Zalto and the bottle open behind it.  We were free to sample each wine in our own glass and the Zalto. We tasted red and white, Burgundy, Bordeaux, Rhone, Champagne, Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinot Noir, Riesling Dessert Wine!  The Jancis Glass beat the Zalto by a mile on every single wine.

One Wine Glass For All Types Of Wine - Astounding!

I brought in a 6-pack to the restaurant to experiment with myself and occasionally with regular customers. Every time, people have been astounded at how they make the wine sing. I'm replacing all the various wine glasses in my home with these. Oh, and they are also beautiful. --Francis Schott

Guest Feedback 2021 December

Hello, and happy holiday season,

One of David’s Xmas gifts was a set of six of the Jancis glasses that you had been raving about in one of our Zoom wine dinners.

Last night, for Xmas dinner, we opened a bottle of Ducru-Beaucaillou Saint-Julien, 2015, and put out our best red wine glasses and the Jancis glasses. David thought I was being silly, requesting two glasses, but I really wanted us to try the same wine in different glasses and see what your rave reviews were all about.

Yep, you were right on the money! The reviews were totally legit. When we nosed the wine in the Jancis glasses vs the other, the difference was astounding! We could smell the fruitiness and complexity of the wine in the Jancis glasses in a way that we could not in the others. As you know, my smell and taste have taken a major hit thanks to COVID. I could smell out of the Jancis glass and barely smell anything at all out of the other.

Thanks for the great recommendation!
Happy New Year, and we’re looking forward to more zoom dinners.

A different glass for each different wine may increase potential pleasure by a few per cent, but who has the space to store multiple different sorts of wine glass? I have spent 42 years trying to make wine as approachable and as pleasurable as possible and sincerely believe that just one glass for all wines makes perfect practical sense. So, I proposed to Richard Brendon that, if we were to design a wine glass together, it should be just one size and shape.

... I started to think about my ideal qualities as far as wine glasses are concerned:

  • gossamer-thin glass with a particularly thin rim to put the taster in as close communication with the liquid as possible, so my glass had to be individually mouth-blown by skillful, experienced artisans
  • a stem that is tall enough to allow even the big-handed to swirl comfortably without affecting the temperature of the wine, but thick enough to preclude easy breakage, and short enough to fit easily into a dishwasher and on a shelf in a normal domestic cupboard
  • dishwasher-friendly (this is almost my personal number one requirement; we use so many glasses)
  • a generous bowl going in towards the rim that captures the all-important aroma and allows energetic swirling to encourage it with no danger of losing any wine over the rim, but is not so wide as to make storage difficult, or measures of wine look mean
  • an opening at the top that is big enough for the big-nosed but not so big that spillage would be a problem
  • a capacity that yields maximum surface area with an average pour of about 125 ml.

Richard Brendon thought of all manner of details that I, a mere consumer, had never considered – such as the need to painstakingly blow the stem as part of the glass rather than assembling it separately as is the case with machine-made glasses. He was lining up various angles and curvatures that to me seemed exceptionally detailed, but I see now that all his refinements have resulted in a shape that really is immensely pleasing to the eye as well as a massive pleasure to use and handle and a real complement to wines of all sorts.

Et voilà!  The Jancis Robinson x Richard Brendon wine glass!
