This is bottle number 707.
We bought this bottle shortly after bottling in 1995, when single-malt scotches were the new in-thing and at Stage Left Steak, we were were one of the few early adopters. We had about 30 single-malts on our list back then. That was about 25 more than anybody else. Bowmore was long a favorite.
The story behind the Bowmore Black is that somehow this was a 'lost barrel' of 1964, the year before a major renovation at the distillery. Supposedly it had been rediscovered and was to be bottled in 3 iterations: Edition I in 1993 at 29 Years Old, Edition II in 1194 at 30 Years Old, Final Edition in 1995 at 31 Years Old. We bought and sold most of it. Thank heaven we personally drank at least one of them. They have all gone on to become some of the most valuable scotches in the world. Numbered Bottle 707 - Bottled 1995.
There is just one bottle of Final Edition (the oldest edition) remaining in our cellar. After all these years, we've decided to offer it for sale. The whiskey has been waiting 54 years to find it's forever home.
Created under the careful eye of Bowmore’s craftsmen, including Master Distiller Eddie MacAffer, Black Bowmore, The Last Cask To Be Rediscovered is a whisky aged to perfection. First distilled on 5 November 1964 at the Bowmore distillery on Islay, over the years this series has become one of the rarest and most sought-after single malt whiskies ever created.
