I don't know of a single vineyard planted the way Stephen Hagan plants and tends Antiquum. It shows in the wines. They're extraordinary.
First off, they use horses to do 90% of the work in the vineyard. That leaves the soil remarkably uncompacted and full of life. The rotating cover crop is managed by a well-trained flock of sheep, which do a little fertilizing at the same time. Geese and chickens also play their part in the life-cycle of the vineyard. Two guard dogs keep the other animals safe and in line. No outside fertilizers or composts are used.
The 2022 Juel Pinot Noir from Antiquum Farm is a unique and expressive wine. It is a blend of six different Pinot Noir selections grown on the farm, reflecting the diverse characteristics of the vineyard. This wine is named after Juel, the son of the farm’s owners, and embodies his wild and creative spirit12.
The wine is known for its complex profile, showcasing a range of flavors from high, ethereal tones to deep, brooding notes, all tied together with a seamless structure
