The domaine of Bitouzet-Prieur is a discovery of, and imported by Neal Rosenthal of Neal Rosenthal Selections. Neal is a true 'Artiste', eschewing large commercial producers for the small, family owned hand-crafted wines that we seek out here at Stage Left. Needless to say, we couldn't do what we do without these importers and distributors who have similar passions to us.
Winemaker Notes
Bitouzet’s lone Puligny-Montrachet is produced from a 0.6-hectare 1955 planting (half replanted in 2000) in the lieu-dit ( a 'Lieu-Dit' is a single vineyard, but rated at the 'village level'. So it it considered a 1/2 step up from a village wine, not as highly rated as a 1er Cru vineyard). Les Levrons, which lies just below 1er cru Les Referts on the slope in the northern part of the village. François crafts a Puligny of impeccable, crystalline clarity from this site, with more filigree, citrus-tinged fruit than his Meursaults, but with an equally authoritative, if less weighty, undercarriage of earth-derived minerality. It spends 16 months in 20-25% new barrels during its élevage.
