When this wine was first brought to me, I was a bit sceptical - A California Sauv Blanc / Semillon blend with 8 years of bottle age. How good can it be? And I was very intrigued by the story - the owner was the great-grandson of the American who purchased Chat eau Haut Brion in 1935! Well I was truly surprised! The wine showed plenty of fruit, with great acidity, showing hardly any signs of age at all. We tried if with goat cheese, a classic pairing for Loire Valley Sauv Blanc. The angels sang! We bought all that was available.
From the Proprietor, Nicholas Allen
My family has been in the wine business for nearly a century, since my great grandfather, Clarence Dillon, acquired Chateau Haut-Brion in 1935 and our family company, Domaine Clarence Dillon, subsequently purchased Chateau La Mission Haut-Brion in 1983. I gained an early exposure, appreciation, and genuine interest in wine from my family. Eventually, I was inspired to produce my own boutique label in Napa Valley—Carte Blanche.
The core of my wine producing philosophy is to respect the terroir in each wine, thus accepting the responsibility to honor what the earth has given us. With each vintage, we celebrate Carte Blanche—the freedom to create wines from singular or multiple vineyards, varietals or appellations
The 2012 Carte Blanche Proprietary White is a Bordeaux Blanc inspired blend of Sauvignon Blanc and Semillon. Micro-climate and terroir were selected from Knights Valley’s Blau Vineyards for 68% Sauvignon Blanc and Alexander Valley’s De Lorimier Vineyard for 32% Semillon. Higher elevations and cooler climates allow for slow ripening, coaxing a full range of flavors that result in this vibrant and full-bodied white wine. The 2012 Proprietary White is a tightly wrapped wine loaded with fresh pamelo, lily of the valley, magnolia flower, and fresh croissant. Extremely focused, lively acidity frames beautiful notes of lime blossom, floral notes,
