Clay Shannon has always been a bit of a maverick. In 1996, he decided to buck convention and set out on his own to establish a progressive, pioneering winery and ranch in Lake County, California.
This wild, challenging terrain captured Shannon’s imagination and inspired his uncompromising commitment to the land itself. “We wanted to grow the best fruit possible,” says Clay, “but we wanted to do it in a way that made us happy living there.”
Winemaker Notes from Annette Hoff
Bright fruit, spice, texture, and all of the tannin are hallmarks of the high-elevation vineyards of Lake County. The dark fruits, Old World characters, and dried herbs come from the lower elevations of north Napa County.
These vineyards produce a wine with rich cassis aromas marked by notes of lavender and vanilla, that lead to raspberry and cherry flavors elevated with a long tobacco and redcurrant finish.
