Crocus - Hobbs/Vigouroux
A partnership between Paul Hobbs, internationally renowned winemaker and Malbec specialist, and Bertrand Gabriel Vigouroux, whose family has been producing wine in Cahors, France since the 1880's, Crocus wines redefine Malbec from its birthplace.
Le Calcifère 2017 is a traditional wine with a concentrated, new world polish, highlighting the expressions of specific sites within the three select terroirs of the Lot Valley.
Terroirs - Fruit selected from the Plateau, the 3rd and 4th Terrace
Winemaking
• Hand-harvested in late September / early October (multiple passes through the vineyard to pick each bunch @ optimal ripeness)
• Fermentations in small stainless steel tanks
• 18 months in 50% new, 50% single use French oak barrels (225 Ltr)
"Le Calcifère translated literally in French, means ‘the one which contains lime,’ referring directly to the limestone content of the soils."
Tasting Notes
An opaque purple-black malbec with a magenta tone on the rim, expressing aromas of red and black fruits such as black cherry jam, ripe blackberry, wild strawberry and huckleberry. The palate is concentrated and fresh, beginning with notes of plums and coffee bean which give way to hints of almonds and black truffle. Structured and velvety tannins lead into a long, fruit forward finish.
