About Dearden Winery

Owner-Winemaker Chris Dearden's journey into winemaking began with a profound connection to the land, nurtured amidst the familial warmth of California's Central Valley. It was here that he first understood the intricate dance between soil, climate, and grape, a lesson that would shape his life's work. Armed with a bespoke education from UC Davis in Viticulture, Enology, and Winery Operations, coupled with an MBA from UC Berkeley, Dearden embarked on a journey fueled by passion and purpose.

Through years of dedication, Dearden ascended from humble beginnings to become the heart and soul behind the Dearden Wines Portfolio. The establishment of the Sleeping Giant Winery in Carneros, Napa Valley, marked the culmination of his dreams—a sanctuary where vines whisper secrets of the earth and wines bear the imprint of his unwavering commitment to excellence. With each sip, there's a taste of tradition, a nod to the past, and an unwavering optimism for the future. As visitors traverse the refurbished estate, they're not just witnessing the culmination of one man's ambition; they're immersing themselves in a story of resilience, love, and the enduring spirit of family. In every bottle, in every vine, Chris Dearden's legacy lives on—a testament to the power of dreams and the transformative magic of wine.

Buena Tierra Chardonnay

The 2022 Buena Tierra Chardonnay embodies the essence of patience and craftsmanship, with a foggy, cool growing season nurturing berries that burst with tantalizing acidity. Fermented with "native" or "indigenous" yeast and subjected to weekly battonage, this wine reveals rich yeasty notes complemented by golden ripe fruit. Each sip unveils a symphony of magnolia, French pear, clove, and ginger, embraced by honeysuckle and Ecuadorian vanilla, leaving a lingering desire for another glass.
