The Domaine de Montille was established in Volnay in the middle of the 18th century. Today it farms 20 hectares of vines, essentially Premier and Grand Crus, mainly in the Côte de Beaune but also in the Côte de Nuits. The domaine produces about 8,000 cases covering 20 appellations. During the 20th century, Hubert de Montille wrote the finest pages of the domaine’s history. The lawyer and his children have always strived to return their domaine, which had declined in the past, to the stature it once enjoyed. Furthermore, it is thanks to Hubert that during the 1960’s the domaine became renowned around the world.
The Appellation - Bourgogne Blanc - Made from a vineyard of about 5 ha in one piece, located at the foot of the Château de Puligny-Montrachet and completely enclosed, which facilitates our biodynamic cultivation method. Although classified as AOC Bourgogne, this vineyard is remarkably well located in the village and on the border of the vines in AOC Puligny-Montrachet. The deep soil, made up of silt and clay, gives the wine a beautiful generosity.
Cultivation of the vine - The estate has been practicing organic viticulture since 1995. Since 2005, biodynamics has been added to these practices that respect the soil and living things. Our wines are Ecocert certified.
Tasting notes - The 2021 Bourgogne Le Clos du Château opens with a discreet zesty bouquet punctuated by secondary notes. Perfectly balanced, it embraces an enveloping texture, and delivers a lingering finish. This is a particularly refined wine for a simple Burgundy, a cut above the classic Burgundy Chardonnay.
