Nizza is an inner region of Piedmont that was established in 2014. Nizza must be made of 100% Barbera from within the confines of the denominacion. Nizza was carved from a truly exceptional area that was once part of the Barbera di Asti.
I've never encounterd Barbera quite like these wines from Nizza. They are often complex and lively. This Riserva spends a little more time in wood than the regular Nizza. It has spent 2 years in wood (large and neutral vessels) and requires 3 years aging in bottle befor release. The wine really does benefit from the extra aging. It's substantial and delicious. The nose is redolent with blackberries and on the palate you dind plum and black cherry. It's quite lively, but with a greater weight on the palate than the non-reserve, lending the wine a beautiful mouth-feel. It's Substanial and delicious. I can't believe this level of complexity from Barbera (only 300 cases produced).
Great with Pasta, Red Sauce & Grilled Meats.
