Steve McIntyre, Proprietor
Having planted more than 20% of the entire AVA, farmed nearly a third of its vineyards and vinified hundreds of wines from its grapes, Steve McIntyre understands what makes the Santa Lucia Highlands so unique.
With degrees in viticulture and enology and a history in SLH that stretches nearly four decades, Steve has a unique perspective on the terroir and wines of this great appellation.
We are in the Santa Lucia Highlands region of Monterey County, one of California’s most coveted AVAs for Burgundian varieties. Our McIntyre Estate Vineyard lies in the “sweet spot” of this famous appellation. From our rolling benchland terrain we produce incredibly intense and complex Pinot Noirs and well-structured, concentrated Chardonnays. We also make deep, exotic Merlots from our estate Kimberly Vineyard in a sheltered part of the nearby Arroyo Seco AVA. Our wines are often hard to find and always exceptional.
Our 2018 SLH Pinot Noir owes much of its success to superior terroir and diligent, sustainable farming. It combines the Swan clone from the Escolle Road Vineyard and two clones from our McIntyre Estate Vineyard: 115 and ‘Old Vine.” The ‘Old Vine” block was planted more than four decades ago, making it the oldest plantings of Pinot Noir in the Santa Lucia Highlands AVA.
