Our estate was founded by Siffrein my great great-grandfather in 1880 and has since been passed down from generation to generation: Abel, Yves and then my father Claude worked hard to expand the estate and constantly improve the quality of the wines. So, now I grow 5 ha (12.5 acres) of vines in the Côtes du Rhône Villages region and 15 ha (38 acres) in Châteauneuf-du-Pape with all the experience gained from my ancestors.
We have cultivated our vineyard using organic farming methods for more than 35 years and since 2012 the wines of Domaine de Saint Siffrein have been officially certified organic. Here at the Domaine, traditional and modern techniques come together to bring you the fruit of our life’s passion. Cyril CHASTAN, Proprietor of Domaine de Saint Sifferin
TERROIR The terroir is clavey-chalky with large rounded sun-warmed stones, which diffuse a gentle, providential heat that helps the grapes to mature.
IN THE VINEYARD For 40 years, we cultivate the vineyard with agriculture in an environmental friendly way. The grapes are harvested by hand with a selection of the best grapes. AGEING Maturing is done during 12 months on oak casks (45 hl) for 75 % and in tanks for 25%.
VARIETALS Grenache noir 55%, Mourvèdre 25%, Syrah 15%, Cinsault 5%
AGEING POTENTIAL 5 to 10 years
TASTING NOTES Beautiful dark ruby color with a beautiful limpidity. The nose is intense on freshness with fruit, toasted notes and sweet spices. The mouth is frank, with a good length on notes of licorice and peach pit.
