Scheid Family Wines is a family-owned and operated wine company founded in 1972. Based in Monterey County, California, Scheid produces estate-grown wines to the marketplace from its 4,000 acres of sustainably certified vineyards. The founder, Al Scheid, planted the first vineyards in Monterey County, and today, the next generation—his son, Scott, and daughter, Heidi—are leading the charge for Scheid Family Wines.
Our vines are rooted at the southern edge of California’s renowned Monterey County winegrowing region in the foothills of the Santa Lucia Mountains – a unique pocket of the Central Coast ideally suited to growing bold and expressive fruit.
Winemaker Notes
Very Dark Red—the name speaks for itself. VDR is a non-traditional proprietary red blend headlined by a rare combination of Petite Sirah and Petit Verdot – two grape varietals known for their extraordinarily deep violet hues, concentrated flavors and full-bodied profiles. Big and bold, VDR not only turns heads, it turns the curious into evangelists with its layered complexity, lush mouthfeel, supple tannins and smooth, lingering finish.
