In the marvelous classic, Moby Dick, Herman Melville writes: "Turn to the green, gentle, and most docile earth and do you not find a strange analogy to something in yourself? For as this appalling ocean surrounds the verdant land, so in the soul of man there lies one insular Tahiti, full of peace and joy, but encompassed by all the horrors of the half-known life."
Cocktail Apocalypse is my interpretation of those words, words that ring especially true during an unprecedented epidemic that has turned our lives upside down as well as our collective psyche. Here we see tempestuous waters swallow up a cocktailian city, symbolizing the near drowning of our beloved bar industry during the Age of Covid. But there is hope! The tempest will soon die down, the waters will recede and life and the joy of gathering with friends will resume once again. Hang in there my friends... I will see you at Stage Left & Catherine Lombardi before too long! - Jill DeGroff 2020 (Lockdown)
